Languify

Languify is aimed to help international students with language barriers through the use of communication and translation. Enabling them to perform better at university and create connections with other students and tutors.

Many international students face a language barrier when attending a university overseas. This results in many challenges for the student; their inability to communicate and connect to classmates and teachers, and their inability to perform to their highest capability academically. 

PROBLEM

GOALS

The goals for this project was to create an app that was easy to use and that would help international students have a better experience at uni.

CHALLENGES

The challenges I faced when developing this app was ensuring that all the features incorporated served a function, since I wanted the app to be as simplistic as possible.

Final Design

Through extensive market and primary research, I developed Languify, prioritising individuals with language barriers at every stage. I am dedicated to supporting international university students who face communication challenges, inspired by my experience working with students who struggled to engage with their peers.

My aim was to help students connect with their peers and comprehend university content, enabling them to succeed and achieve strong academic results.

THE PROCESS

Research

The initial research aimed to investigate how I could help international students and what their struggles they were so I could help and find a solution.

Questionnaire

A questionnaire was sent out on reddit to reach my audience easily and I got a total of 16 responses.

There was a small variety of options that were available and the importance of creating a start-up that is more beneficial for student's is needed.

Iterations

The design process was completed in two stages before the final result. The process involved transforming sketches into wireframes and refining the interfaces through usability testing to ensure both functionality and aesthetics.

  • STAGE 1:

The first stage involved wire-framing, where I transformed my sketches into a detailed interface. This step allowed me to better visualise the design in a more realistic format.

  • STAGE 2:

A think-aloud session was conducted to gain insights into users' thought processes, particularly in understanding how they interact with a digital system. Additionally, an SUS (System Usability Scale) evaluation was performed to easily interpret feedback, as participants often find it challenging to articulate their thoughts—especially when overwhelmed or unfamiliar with UI terminology.
